about

Ten years after the release of their debut album, Sebastian Melmoth presents a record that reimagines their back catalogue as a suite of rave-ready dancefloor fillers.

While the album title Imaginary Futures, which alludes to the lost potential of disparate creative outcomes, is borrowed from Richard Barbrook’s 2007 book charting the emergence of the internet, it was the production, remix and DJ work of Andrew Weatherall that was the key inspiration for the band’s approach. The album’s flow and concept loosely mirrors Weatherall’s treatment of Primal Scream’s source material for Screamadelica, which resulted in their pivotal marriage of rock and acid house.

While some tracks employ contributions from outside of Sebastian Melmoth’s inner circle, namely Bass Clef, Private Plebs and MFZ Records co-founder Froz, the bulk of Imaginary Futures has been remixed by two of the band’s core members: Peter Jordan and Tomoko Matsumoto (credited as Pete Da Clinker and DTT respectively).
